St. Peter Parish in Spokane, WA, is looking for full-time (~40 hours) Director of Religious Education &Youth Ministry (DREYM), reporting directly to the Pastor.  St. Peter Parish has approximately 750 registered families with existing Religious Education, Sacramental Preparation & Youth Group programs.  St. Peter’s is looking for a DREYM to provide vision and coordination in each of these vital parish programs: Religious Education (catechizing children in Kindergarten -6th grade), Sacramental Preparation (instructing 2nd grade students to receive the Sacraments of Initiation) and the Youth Ministry Program, which will serve young people in 7th through 12th grades.

The role of the DREYM is to teach, guide and encourage the children & youth of the parish to encounter the person of Jesus Christ and embrace the gifts of the Catholic Church in an experiential and tangible way.  Each program will entail an integration and implementation of the theology of the teachings of the Catholic Church through child/adolescent catechesis, scripture, sacramental/liturgical preparation & involvement, and community activities.  The position will also require a substantial amount of coordination with parent volunteers in all programs, formation of catechists for the RE/Sacramental Prep classes, administrative & organizational duties, and the leadership in the Youth Group Program as the primary teacher.

Requirements:

  • Candidate must be a practicing Roman Catholic, in good moral standing, with a passion for God and the Catholic Church.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Collaborate well with the children, youth, parents and parish staff.
  • Ideally, candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Catechesis, Youth Ministry, or have equivalent experience in catechetical teaching and religious education.
  • Preference will be given to those with previous religious education & youth ministry experience.
  • Selected individual will be required to pass a thorough background check and complete the Diocesan Code of Conduct (Protecting Our Children) training.
  • Successful candidate must have night and weekend (particularly Sunday) availability.

Salary range will be $28,000 – $33,000 dependent on education and experience, and will be eligible for full diocesan benefits.  Send resume (including 3 references) and a recommendation by your current Pastor by May 1st, 2012 to:
