Parish Youth Day 2011
Have you ever be asked why Catholics follow the Pope? Do you ever wonder how the Catholic Church began? What do you know about the Holy Spirit? How do you answer people if they ask what makes the Catholic Church different than other Christian faiths? Does being Catholic affect the way you act?
These are all great questions and this semester, the Youth Group will learn the answers!
In one of his addresses at the 1995 World Youth Day in the Philippines, Pope John Paul II said, “What is needed today is a church which knows how to respond to the expectations of young people. Jesus wants to enter into dialogue with them and, through his body which is the Church, to propose the possibility of a choice, which will require a commitment of their lives. As Jesus with the disciples of Emmaus, so the Church must become the traveling companion of young people…” I believe this quote from Blessed John Paul II, highlights the essential mission and goal of a youth ministry program, that is, to serve as a companion to our young people during their faith journeys.
Therefore, the theme for our semester is, Walk This Way: The Companionship of the Church.
Our lesson topics will include the following: Jesus’ establishment of the Church, the humanity & divinity of the Church, our relationship with the Holy Spirit, the visible structure & hierarchy of the Church, the task of evangelization, and the need for an active membership within the our church community. We hope the youth will come to recognize the Catholic Church for who she is, a companion throughout all their lives.
Any teen in junior high and high school are welcomed and encouraged to join the St. Peter Youth Group on Sunday evenings in the Parish Hall from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Come and discover your Catholic faith and learn more about what God has in store for you in your life.
